The LRM Studio Fragrance Collection: How Our Coastal Scents Are Made

Fragrance is the most immediate sense. Before you've registered colour or composition, a scent has already placed you somewhere — and for us, that somewhere is always the same: the Kent coast, the salt air, the particular clean-and-wild combination that greets you every morning in Whitstable.

Creating a fragrance collection that captures that feeling was never going to be a quick project. It took many iterations and a lot of patience to arrive at scents that felt true — not a postcard version of the coast, but something more lived-in and specific.

Where the Scents Begin

Every fragrance in the LRM Studio collection starts with a memory or a moment. The particular smell of a wood-panelled beach hut warming in the afternoon sun. The way rain on the seafront smells different from rain anywhere inland — heavier, more mineral, with the faint sweetness of seaweed drying on the shingle. The drift of a neighbour's garden flowers over a garden wall.

These aren't invented experiences — they're Whitstable ones, and that specificity is what we were after. There are a lot of coastal fragrances in the world. We wanted ours to smell like this particular stretch of coast, in this particular light.

How We Work with Fragrance

We work with carefully selected fragrance houses who share our commitment to quality ingredients and responsible sourcing. Each scent is developed in small batches, tested over time, and refined until it holds up — in a cold room, a warm room, the hours after first burning, the faint trail it leaves in fabric and air.

Our candles are made with a clean-burning blend that allows the fragrance to develop fully rather than burning hot and fast. The throw — the way a scent fills a room — is something we test obsessively. A beautiful fragrance that doesn't travel is a wasted opportunity.

The Collection

Our current collection draws on the full palette of a life lived by the sea — the brightening top notes of salt and citrus, the grounding base notes of driftwood, white musk, and warm amber. Each candle is designed to layer naturally with the others, so you can move through a house with a coherent scent story rather than jarring contrasts.

The packaging, like everything we make, is designed to sit well in an interior. Nothing garish or overly branded — just clean, considered objects that earn their place on a shelf.

On Gifting Fragrance

A well-chosen candle is one of the most reliably good gifts there is. It's something most people wouldn't buy for themselves, it lasts, and it fills a home with something beautiful every time it's lit. If you're looking for a gift that says something considered — not just a token — fragrance is often the answer.

Our coastal scent collection is available to shop now, with complimentary gift wrapping on every order.
